Mark Malkoff has a fear of flying… so what does he do? Well, he does what any other rational person would do and decided to live on board an AirTran airliner for a month. In a fairly unique way, Mark is also demonstrating the Wi-Fi capabilities of GoGo Inflight Internet and the vast reach of social media.
It’s quite a remarkable undertaking simply for the sake of conquering a fear of flying (there are easier means, Mark) so one has to wonder if the stunt is in some way connected to the marketing department of either Gogo or Airtran… or is the likely residual publicity just a means for the airline giving the green light to a man who is no doubt an incubator for a whole new kind of stink this far into his journey? Of course it’ll no doubt draw media attention to Mark as a comedian and film maker.
Whatever the reason, and assuming Mark really does have a fear of flying, his journey may well inspire others into an aircraft that share the same phobia, and at the same time it should demonstrate one man’s reach to the world with nothing more than a laptop and camera – all from on board a moving aircraft. Ironically, I think he’s more contactable than most of us. You can follow Mark via Facebook and MySpace, his blog, Flickr, YouTube, his web site or Twitter. If you want to be boring you could always send him an email.
I wish him well!
